Locally Sourcing Ingredients + Strawberry Recipes
Strawberries are in Season in NC! I picked, created + ate my weight in berries.
I’m obsessed with locally sourced farm fresh ingredients. However, the obsession gets even more real when I see the words “pick your own.” The excitement is hard to contain. It was 80 degrees, sunny and just overall a gorgeous day + moment to be in the middle of the Strawberry fields rummaging through the plants to find that perfectly red ripened berry.
Here’s me living my best life:
Quick note:
I’ve switched email providers and the normal “busy” email style that you’ve seen me send, over to this new Substack format. I’m really trying to focus less on noise, like bright & “sell sell sell” email templates, social media posting constantly, hustle mentality, and just bring what feels natural into your inbox. I want to be helpful to you, so always feel free to reach out to me!
The Recipes
Over the last week, I’ve developed several Strawberry recipes. For breakfast, we’ve got Strawberry Smoothie bowls topped with granola, fresh berries, and bananas. My kids went crazy over the recipe and I went wild over this next one. It’s a 5 minute ricotta and honey toast topped with strawberry, basil and a balsamic drizzle. It’s out of this world + takes no time at all!
For Breakfast or Dessert, you’ve got to try my Strawberry Compote. Breakfast time means pouring it over waffles and topping them with whipped cream. Thinking dessert? Pour it over ice cream, angel food cake, cheesecake and more!
The Video
Check out this video for 5 recipes that I made with the giant basket of strawberries I picked. I also give some tips on keeping berries fresh + there’s a quick glimpse of the farm where I picked.
Ok, I know this image is kind of gimmicky..don’t judge me.
Thoughts
If you have farmers locally that are allowing you to come and pick on their farm and see their practices, spend the extra few dollars and put it into their pockets. Not to be a downer, but they are being challenged in many ways & this could negatively impact all of us in the future.
I love you all and thank you for reading! xoxo~Tara with Simply Made Eats
